Plastic Bags Survey
The ministry conducted a survey through the social networking site " Twitter " on the use of plastic bags in markets and shopping centers and if replacing them with biodegradable or reusable bags is desirable.
Objectives: This poll aims to raise awareness of the dangers of the use of bags on the Omani environment and the impact on humans and biodiversity alike, also it aims to gauge the level of awareness of the said aspects.
Targeted: The social networking site "Twitter" participants and subscribers.
Participants: 4514 respondents participated in the direct vote in the Ministry's account on Twitter linking the Ministry's tweets.
Poll duration: 3 days
Poll Results: 89% of
respondents supported the ban on plastic bags, while 11% voted
against the ban
Posts and suggestions: More than 130 people participated in the presentation of proposals and comments on the dangers of plastic bags on humans and wildlife in the Sultanate citing dangers on animals, trees and green areas, as well as their impact on marine life, beaches, coral reefs and others.
Accompanying information: The survey included information about plastic bags, their components, their sources and the Sultanate's efforts to mitigate the impact of plastic bags.
